Bognor Regis is the perfect destination for spending your weekend sunbathing, bicycling, exploring, and indulging in fresh seafood.
So, take out your travel diary and plan your visit today to the most vibrant coastal town in the U.K.
Bognor Regis, or simply Bognor, is a town and seaside resort in the Arun district, in the county of West Sussex on the south coast of England and just 56 miles away from London, UK.
Bognor Regis is one of the oldest Saxon names in Sussex. The word Bognor came from Bucgan Ora, meaning Bucge’s (a female Saxon name) shore or landing place and Regis means “king’s” and marks the convalescence of King George V, which happened there in 1929.
As a seaside town, Bognor Regis has plenty of beaches for you to explore. While some have a lively ambience, others are peaceful with a more mysterious feel.
East Beach is the most popular one, located right in the centre of the town. Moreover, it is one of the most lively places due to its proximity to the Esplanade.
Also, you will find plenty of food and drink shops on the seafront, along the beach.
Enjoy a sunbath in the sunniest town in the United Kingdom, take in the magnificent sea views, and browse the local shops and many restaurants along the coast.
Whether you are visiting alone or with family, Bognor Regis has more than enough to keep you entertained throughout the weekend.
According to British history, Bognor Regis was a fishing and smuggling village from medieval times until the 18th century.
After that, East India merchant and property developer Richard Hotham converted it into a seaside resort and renamed it Hothamton. However, the name did not become widely popular.
British entrepreneur Billy Butlin came to the town to set up his business around the 1930s and, for the first time, presented his ‘Recreation Shelter,’ which was situated on the corner of Lennox Street and the Esplanade.
Eventually, the Recreational shelter became popular for entertainment with its one-eyed bandits and dodgem cars. This location is now known as Butlin’s Bognor Regis Resort.
There are various ways to reach Bognor Regis via different routes and vehicles. For more information, visit the official website of Bognor Regis Town Council.
A27 is one of the major roads that will take you to Bognor Regis. But if you are coming from the west, follow the M27 road, which turns into the A27 near Portsmouth.
After that, follow this road till you reach Chichester and then take the A259. Eventually, you will see a big signpost of ‘Bognor Regis.’
Bognor Regis railway station is connected to Barnham on the West Coastway Line and offers frequent train services to London and other towns along the south coast, with trains running approximately every half hour.
Southern Rail runs trains to Bognor Regis, connecting London with the southern region.
With an extensive network of tracks that spans across Sussex and Hampshire, you can travel by railway conveniently to various destinations.
Getting by bus is the most convenient yet cost-effective way to reach Bognor Regis. Also, the bus stops stretch all around the town, and the service is frequently available.
Bognor Regis is located within the PO21 postcode district, which covers an area that includes parts of West Sussex, such as Bognor Regis, Felpham, Middleton-on-Sea, and Aldwick. Within the PO21 postcode district, Bognor Regis is roughly located towards the center of the area.
Bognor Regis is a popular destination for tourists and sea lovers. However, the place has much more to offer than its seaside sceneries and beaches.
Bognor Regis presents a mix of seaside charm, local events, historical buildings, restaurants and scenic beauty.
The Town Centre is at the heart of Bognor Regis and is home to a variety of shops, restaurants, and historical places.
High Street is a bustling place in the Town Centre of Bognor Regis, lined with shops and cafes.
It is an annual event held each summer in the town at Bognor Regis Pier that attracts international participants.
