Mount Elbrus in Russia holds the glory of being the highest among all the mountains in Europe. Elbrus has two summits, and both are dormant volcanic domes formed 2.5 million years ago.

It is considered one of the most beautiful mountains in Europe. Hence, mountaineering is a popular activity for tourists in Elbrus. Weather is a dangerous aspect of climbing Mount Elbrus because storms occur suddenly and create extreme cold weather, making climbing difficult for climbers.

Mont Blanc Mountain in Europe is a destination for those who are really into winter sports and is also known as ‘White Mountain‘. Its height varies each year depending on the depth of the summit’s snowcap. Also, it has the highest fatality rate and is among the most dangerous mountains.

Mont Blanc has a wide range of sports and is perfect for skiing, snowboarding, and other adventurous winter sports. For adventure seekers and climbers, Mont Blanc also owns the Mer de Glace glacier, one of the longest in the Alps. Here, the view is an absolute treat.

This snow-covered, pink-tinted mountain is the massif of the Pennine Alps. Its 10th summit, Dufourspitze, is the highest mountain in Switzerland and the second-highest mountain in the Alps. Mountain climbing in Monte Rosa is one of the favourite activities of mountaineers.

Visiting this massif requires proper guidance and a guide who is familiar with the mountain. He will be able to help you with planning and, most importantly, show you the right way to go hiking safely to have a lifetime experience.

4. Mount DykhTau

Mount Dykh Tau is in Russia and is part of the Caucasus mountain system. It holds the place of being the second-highest mountain in Europe. It has two peaks, and reaching them is challenging as they are steeped and covered with snow.

In winter, this mountain is bitterly cold, and the roughness of the treacherous traverse of the rocky route towards the mountain can be witnessed during summer.

5. Mount Ushba

Mount Ushba is one of the most spectacular peaks in the Caucasus region. It is located within the Svaneti region Georgian summit. This spire-shaped double-summit mountain has southern and northern peaks; the north peak is higher than the south peak, and the slopes are covered with snow.

There are 50 routes to climb Mount Ushba, making it possible for experienced climbers to complete the trek within twelve days.

6. Matterhorn

Matterhorn is a pyramid-shaped mountain of the Alps and gives a unique visual feast to the eyes. Its breathtaking view of the Alpine attracts adventure enthusiasts worldwide. Hörnligrat is one of the most accessible popular routes from Zermatt via the Hörnli Hut.

Matterhorns were formed millions of years ago when several landmasses slammed into one another. It is usually crowded during the peak season, with many climbers annually.

7. Dom Mountain

Dom is a mountain in the Pennine Alps and is among the main Alps chain between Randa and SaasFee in the Valais region of Switzerland.

The area around Dom is best reached by cable car- Längflue. The Swiss part of the mountain is sometimes called the Walliser Alpen (German) or the Alpes du Valais (French).

The ascent of Dom by its standard route is straight but has a certain height and steep elevation. It takes a few hours to reach the summit from Dom Hut.

8. Shkhara Mountain

Shkhara is considered to be Georgia’s highest mountain. Mount Shkhara in Europe is one of the highest and most beautiful peaks in the central Caucasus between Russia and Georgia.

There are around ten routes to reach this mountain. The road to Shkhara is compact and requires good trekking skills, rock climbing, rope access, and physical fitness.

9. Tetnuldi Mountain

Tetnuldi Mountain is one of charming Georgia’s icecaps, located in the middle of the Caucasus Mountain Range. The Tetnuldi Peak offers spectacular views of its neighbours, including Mount Elbrus and the village of Mestia.

The glaciers and ice all over the mountains in Europe make it an ideal home and a popular tourist destination for many new and upcoming ski resorts. Those who love skiing will enjoy the variety of new ski resorts from Tetnuldi and surrounding areas.
