Managed by the Darlington NHS Foundation Trust & the County Durham, University Hospital of North Durham is an acute care hospital opened in 2001. The hospital has a majority of departments. Other facilities include Neonatal unit facilities, breastfeeding facilities and support, bereavement support, and facilities for parents and siblings. This University hospital was made as a replacement for the older Dryburn Hospital and was built on the same site as the older one. Some buildings from the old Dryburn Hospital remain and are now used as residences for the hospital’s doctors. The hospital collaborates or partnerships with Bishop Auckland and Darlington Memorial Hospital.

2. Chester Le Street Hospital

After the University Hospital of North Durham, Chester Le Street is our list’s second-best health facility provider. County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust manages and maintains the hospital founded in 1856 by Matthew Thompson. Some new sickrooms and isolation blocks were built south of the workhouse two years later.

In 1948, it was connected with the National Health Service as Chester Le Street Hospital. 2003, the Robertson Group built a new hospital under the Private Finance Initiative.
